VRFA’s Mushen cracks top 10 in Stair-climb

Valley Regional Fire Authority Firefighter Jeremiah Mushen captured another top-10 finish at the 18th annual Scott Firefighter Stair-climb on Sunday.

Mushen, equipped in full gear, climbed 69 floors of the Seattle Columbia Center Tower in 13 minutes, 7.15 seconds. His time was the fastest in his age group.

Kory Murgess, 27, of the Missoula (Mont.) Rural Fire, won the climb in 10:55.75.

Georgia Daniels, 41, of the Graham (Ore.) Fire & Rescue, won the women’s overall title with a time of 14:36.65.

Mushen finished sixth in the 2007 climb and eighth a year ago.

VRFA’s Norm Golden, 39, was 186th with a time of 16:52.95. Gary Barker, 41, was 348th in 18:26.60.

The event raised funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

A total of 1,556 firefighters from the U.S., Canada and other countries finished the climb, each raising funds to participate. They climbed 69 floors, 1,311 steps, and 788 feet of vertical elevation wearing approximately 60 pounds of gear.
