Wheelbarrow donations sought for Auburn’s community garden program

The Auburn Community Garden (formerly Pea Patch) program is seeking donations of new or used wheelbarrows for use by community gardeners at the program’s new location (1030 – 8th Street NE, near Fulmer Field).

The program would like to have at least 10 wheelbarrows to keep at the Community Gardens to provide a convenience to the gardeners to access their 10-by-20-foot rented garden space. The configuration of the program’s new location requires that the gardeners park at one end and transport garden materials or tools to their individual gardens through a series of paths.

Donated wheelbarrows will be painted by Auburn’s Youth Council with individualized elements drawn from the gardening experience. Program organizers are requesting donations be made before April 1.

ABOUT AUBURN’S COMMUNITY GARDEN PROGRAM

The Community Garden is designed for interested gardeners who want to plant and raise their own produce or flowers. Individuals may lease up to two (2) 10’ x 20’ pea patches. Weather permitting, pea patches will open on April 11 and will be available through Oct. 12. Applications are now available.

Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation Department will process the applications, assign the plots, initially till the site and provide water access to the site. Gardeners are responsible for cultivating, weeding, fertilizing, watering and other care of their patches.
