The White River Valley Lions Club supports the Wounded Warrior Project in an Oct. 26 fundraiser at the Filipino American Hall, 103 6th Ave. N., Algona.

A portion of the proceeds benefits the Wounded Warrior Project, which raises awareness and enlists the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members.

The 6 p.m. program hosts Mary Tallouzi from the WWP. She raised three children, Christopher, Daniel and Jennifer, mostly as a single parent. The older children, Christopher and Daniel, proudly served in the Army and both were deployed to Iraq. After Daniel was severely injured in 2006, Tallouzi cared for him on a full-time basis until his death in February 2009.

In a book titled, “Pediatrician Soldier”, a chapter is devoted to Daniel with many short descriptions about him written by special people in his life. Tallouzi and Daniel also fought to have Daniel treated in a private facility, and that experience was featured in the New York Times.

With the mission to honor and empower wounded warriors, WWP is the hand extended to encourage warriors as they adjust to their new normal and achieve new triumphs.

Cost is $15 per person, $5 for children (5-10), kids under 5 are free, with dinner included.
