The YMCA of Greater Seattle has named Nathan Phillips as regional executive for South King County.

Phillips will lead the Y’s efforts to expand operations in South King County and explore new partnership opportunities. Working with the Matt Griffin YMCA and the Auburn Valley YMCA, he also will help the organization find ways to better serve the region through its youth development, healthy living and social responsibility programs.

Phillips was previously the director of South King Council of Human Services (SKCHS), where he developed and staffed a membership network of human service providers, funders, cultural groups and local governments.

He pioneered innovative models of providing technical assistance to local nonprofits and community groups on culturally appropriate services, fundraising, outcomes and organizational management. Also in this role he helped lead the Road Map Project for Education Results, a collaboration working to improve education and close opportunity gaps in South King County schools.

“The Y’s focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility seems like an obvious fit for our South King County communities,” Phillips said. “I am delighted to work with the Y to figure out how it can expand its services in this region in a way that builds on what is already here.”

Earlier in his career, Phillips studied at the University of Washington’s Law School and Evans School of Public Affairs, focusing on how public policy gets implemented in complex regions like King County. He served as Coordinator of Public Service Clinics at the UW’s Evans School; researcher with the Washington State Regional Transportation Commission; program analyst for King County Department of Community and Human Services; administrative analyst for the YWCA of Seattle – King County – Snohomish County; and assistant director for the Washington Coalition of Citizens with Disabilities.
