Suspect sought in fatal hit and run near Maple Valley

The King County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in a hit and run case that killed a 53-year-old man jogging in Maple Valley on Sunday morning, July 18.

Deputies responded at about 10:55 a.m. near the 23800 block of Southeast 216th Street near Maple Valley in unincorporated King County after a man was found dead near the roadside, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release.

The man was an avid runner and is believed to have been struck as he neared the end of a 15-mile Sunday run. A preliminary investigation indicates he was likely hit by a vehicle that fled the scene leaving little evidence behind.

The case has left a Maple Valley family without their husband, father and son.

As of Monday afternoon, the King County Medical Examiner’s Office had not identified the man.
