Catherine Eva Grotheer

Catherine Eva Grotheer, 95, completed her earthly journey and earned her angel wings when she passed peacefully at Regency Auburn on Friday, January 1, 2010. She was laid to rest in a private graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery on January 7th, 2010. Catherine was born on September 22, 1914 in Aberdeen, SD. Her family later moved to Spokane where she met and married a handsome soldier named Frederick. After the war, they moved to Auburn where they lived out their lives. Catherine was a kind, gentle soul and a loving individual. She was happy to take care of her husband, raise her two daughters, and be the best wife and mother she could be. She enjoyed belonging to Holy Family church and participating in the activities with her church circle, St. Bernadette’s. Catherine was fond of crosswords, card games, baking, tending her flower boxes, and spending time with friends and family. Catherine is preceded in death by her husband Frederick Grotheer, her parents Andrew and Eva Fischer, sisters Clara McMahon and Cecilia Horn, and her brothers Pius and Leo Fischer. She is survived by her daughters Catherine Wack and Patricia Austin, her grandchildren Anthony Marquart, Christopher (Leslie) Marquart, Lisa (Scott) Turtle, Amanda (Larry) Austin Schrof, and 3 great-grandchildren. Catherine’s family would like to thank the staff at Regency Auburn for all the special loving care and kindness they showed to Catherine over the years, and to the Franciscan Hospice staff for their gentleness and care at the end of her journey. We love you, Catherine, and will miss your smile and hugs. You will always be in our hearts. A Celebration of Life will be held for Catherine later this spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Catherine’s memory to the American Stroke Association (www.strokeassociation.org).
