DAVID RUTHERFORD

David Rutherford, age 23, was called home by his heavenly Father on February 3, 2020, in Columbus, Georgia.

David is survived by his father Matt, his mother Cindy, his brother Johnathan and sister-in-law Michaela, and his fiance Sarah Savell.

David was born on June 14, 1996, in the Tri-Cities in Washington State, but he grew up in Auburn, Washington. After graduating high school he attended the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, where he was part of the ROTC program and graduated in 2019 with a degree in electrical engineering. At that time David was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army, spending the summer at Fort Knox before moving on to Fort Benning in September for his initial officer training. Also at the end of August, David met Sarah Savell and in October they were engaged to be married.

On January 22, toward the end of his training at Fort Benning, David suffered an injury in a training exercise. He was unable to recover, and passed away twelve days later. He is dearly missed by his family and loved ones, but they also take comfort in knowing that David is now with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to enjoy Him forever.

A funeral service for David will be held on February 17 at Eastridge Baptist Church in Kent, Washington. The service will begin at 9:30am, with the option of viewing available at 8:30am for those who wish to see David. He will be buried at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
