An inspiration to family and friends with his silent resolve in a year-long battle with cancer, James R. Eberlein died peacefully with family by his side on June 6.Born in Luverne, MN on September 4, 1929 as Stanley and Erma Eberlein’s only child, Jim’s family relocated to Chehalis in 1940. Jim left school prior to high school graduation to join the US Coast Guard in 1945, serving six years. After his service commitment was fulfilled, Jim returned to Washington and moved to Auburn, where he joined his mother and step-father, Buzz Linnell, in operating the Rainbow Café in downtown Auburn, which remained in the family until Jim’s retirement in 1984.On November 14, 1952 Jim married his partner and love of 58 years, Marge Shaneyfelt. Upon retirement in 1984, Jim worked part-time as a bus driver for the Auburn School District, until embarking on travel with Marge in 1990. After spending time living in Alamo, TX and Copalis Beach, WA, Jim and Marge settled in at their current residence in Enumclaw.Survivors include his loving wife, daughters Joni L. Flory and Patti L. Tipton (husband Mike) of Auburn, sons James R. (Bob) Eberlein, Jr. (wife JaDene) of Auburn, William B. Eberlein (wife Karen) of Buckley and Donald E. Eberlein (partner Ray) of Las Vegas, NV.
