Margaret L. (Widman) Trimble

Margaret “Maggie” (Widman) Trimble was born on April 13, 1926 in Bellingham, WA and passed away peacefully on March 14, 2010 in Auburn, WA. Margaret spent her early childhood and teen years in Blaine. She graduated from Blaine High School in 1944, before attending the University of Washington. While at the UofW, Maggie started out as a Zoology/Biology major before finally switching to Physical Education as her field of study. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in P.E., followed in later years by a Masters Degree in the same field. Maggie was an all around sports figure playing field hockey, softball and swimming to name a few sports. She paid her way through college by working summers on the green chain at a lumber mill in Blaine, and was a welder’s apprentice in the Navel Shipyards at Bremerton. After graduation she spent four years teaching at Mount Si High School in North Bend. Maggie moved to Auburn High School in 1955, where she not only taught physical education and health, but started an active coaching career. She was one of the pioneers in the establishment of women’s gymnastics in Washington State. It wasn’t until 2007 that Maggie received special recognition and her varsity letter as part of a celebration for the pre-title nine Women Athletes at the UofW. In 2008 she was inducted to the WIAA Hall of Fame. In 1954, Maggie’s brother introduced her to her future husband, Willard Trimble. She was married in September 1955, and gave birth to her only child Michael, in June 1956. After teaching and coaching for 26 years, she retired in 1981. She stayed Active in Auburn High School athletics for many years. She also cared for her husband after he suffered a stroke, and pursued her love of horses in dressage. Maggie touched many lives and will be truly missed. Margaret is survived by her son Michael. A viewing will be held March 25, 2010 from 12-8 pm at Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn, a Graveside Service will be held April 2, 2010 at 1 pm in Blaine, WA and a Celebration of Life will take place April 17, 2010 at the Auburn Eagles located at 702 M Street SE in Auburn, from 12-3 pm.
