Olive (Oddy) Myrtle Newman passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 16, 2009 after a long and brave battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She leaves behind her husband of 64 years Russell E. Newman and two daughters, Gail L. and Cheryl Newman-Crandall. Grandchildren are Laura and Paula Crandall, Jason and Aprille Wentworth.Oddy was born in the industrial town of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to patents Alice and Stanley Elley. She is survived by brothers Norman and Lorne and sister Verna, deceased are sisters Velma and Dorothy. Oddy attended Lloyd George High School and after, worked in a steel factory for the war effort. She met Russell Newman who was in the RCAF during the war and they married soon after. They moved to Haney, B.C. Canada and lived with Russell’s parents George and Gladys Newman. George helped build a house for them and that is where their children, Gail and Cheryl were born. They then moved to Lynnwood, WA for better job opportunities and to raise their children there. Oddy worked for Consolidated Press as a receptionist and bookkeeper. After retirement they moved to Auburn, WA where they bought a small farm and raised registered black angus cattle. Later they sold the cattle so they could raise donkeys on their land.Oddy and Russell loved to travel. They visited Hawaii, New Zealand, England, Scotland, the Bahamas and many more places. Oddy loved gardening, baking and dancing. Family was for Oddy the most important aspect of her life. She celebrated every birthday and holiday with those she loved.Oddy was a strong independent woman with a great sense of humor. This never faltered all through her illness. Oddy was a member of The Teamsters Union 763. She was also a Charter member of Emerald Downs Race Track. Russell and Oddy are both member of St. Matthew Episcopal Church of Auburn, WA.She is Very Loved And is Greatly Missed!Cremation service by Bonney-Watson Seattle, WA.
