VELMA MAE CARLSON

Velma died peacefully March 5, 2010, just a few weeks before her 96th birthday. She was born March 25, 1914, in Hayden, IN, the daughter of Henrietta A. and Fountain C. Heaton. Her husband Willis preceded her in death (1993), as well as her daughter Janice Louise (1945) and seven siblings. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Her survivors include her sons, Charles (Susan) and Jerry (Jewel), six grandchildren, and seventeen great-grand-children. She and her husband extended their family to many, especially Kalloor and Kunjomol Devasia, their children and grandchildren, and Gloria and Leo Fawley and their family. Velma’s work career was varied, concentrating mainly on accounting, and culminating in her own business as a licensed tax consultant, one of the first to be licensed in the State of Oregon. At age 80, she attended classes with her grandchildren and became proficient in the use of the computer. She designed and printed her own greeting cards, using the photos she took, until the time of her death. At age 90, she wrote and published her autobiography, complete with many photographs.
