Verney W. Fitzgerald

Verney (Vern/Fitz) W. Fitzgerald

Vern was born St. Patty’s Day in 1934 in Spottswood Virginia. Vern left this world peacefully on July 29, 2011 at the age of 77, at his home in Auburn, Washington with his loving family and friends by his side. As a tough Irishman he began winning a 28 year battle over four types of cancer that began with pancreas cancer at age 48. God decided this last cancer (liver) would be the one which takes him to the everlasting mountain trails where he can ride his favorite horse for eternity. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Margaret, his son and hunting buddy Jesse and his great granddaughter Kayla Hampel which he helped raise. He also leaves behind lifelong friendships he treasured over the years, along with those he touched and inspired in his years as a police officer and detective in the Auburn Police Dept. He is preceded in death by his daughter Lydia Hampel. Per Vern’s request he will be cremated and there will be a military honors service at the Tahoma National Cemetery on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 1:30. Remembrances may be made to your favorite charity.
