U.S. Rep. Adams Smith (WA, 9th Congressional District) released the following statement after the International Association of Machinists District 751 and Boeing failed to reach a contract agreement:

“After Boeing and the Machinists could not agree to terms of a new contract, Boeing is opening the competition for the 777X jet and will hear proposals from other states. I believe that Washington state is the most prepared and best site for Boeing to build the new jet. The Everett plant’s success in building the 777 jet provided workers with the infrastructure and the skills necessary to efficiently build the future line of 777X jets.

“Gov. Inslee and other public officials have worked tirelessly to get the 777X jet production in Washington state, and will continue to work with stakeholders to show why our state is the best option for the 777X. I stand ready to assist in any way possible.”
