AR duo helps Washington win Shootout

Auburn Riverside’s Stephanie Egwuatu had six points, and fellow Ravens senior Katie Grad added four on Sunday night, helping Washington roll past Oregon in the Northwest Shootout at the University of Portland, 100-77.

Last month, Egwuatu and Grad helped Auburn Riverside win its second consecutive Class 3A state girls basketball championship, defeating Kennedy in the title game, 48-40.

Egwuatu, bound for Portland State University, hit 2 of 4 from the field and both of her free throws.

Grad, who will take her talents to Washington State, was 1 of 6 from the floor and 2 of 2 from the line.

Ashley Corral of Prairie, who is heading to Southern California, led Washington with 21 points She drained five shots from 3-point range. Overall, Washington hit 13 of 31 shots from behind the arc. Corral, who also had three assists and two steals, was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.

State boys win, too

The Washington boys, down 52-45 at halftime, went on a second-half scoring surge, outscoring Oregon by a 63-53 margin to pull out a 108-105 victory. Reggie Moore of Class 3A state champion Rainier Beach led the way with 23 points. DeAngelo Casto of 4A champion Ferris added 19.

Aaron Broussard of Federal Way tallied 15 points for Washington. Kentridge’s Renado Parker had five.
