Auburn area swimmers compete at Washington State Boys Swimming and Diving championships | Boys Swimming

Swimmers from Auburn, Auburn Mountainview and Auburn Riverside were among the competitors at this past weekend’s Washington State Boys Swimming and Diving Championships at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Auburn senior Matt Nordlie participated in the 4A 50-yard freestyle, qualifying to compete in the state finals with a preliminary time of 22.35-seconds.

In the finals, Nordlie finished tied for 13th-place with a 22.77 time. The event was won by Snohomish’s Garren Riechel with a 20.31 finish.

For 3A Auburn Mountainview, Walker McNab, John Irwin, Jason Correa and Colman Hunt – all seniors – competed in the 200 freestyle relay. The Lions moved on to the finals with a preliminary time of 1:36.62 and finished sixteenth on day two with a 1:37.65. The event was won by Mercer Island with a 1:27.55 time.

Auburn Riverside was represented by senior Ryan Atwood in the 4A 100 freestyle and the 100 breast. Atwood was 19th in the free with a 51.39 time and 26th in the breast with a 1:05.39. In the 100 free, Shorewood’s Thor Stenfjord came out on top with a 47.69 time. In the 100 breast, Snohomish’s Riechel was first with a 55.63.

Atwood also joined fellow seniors Madison Allen and Nick Serdahl and junior Brandon Hand, in the 200 free relay, turning in a 16th place finish in the finals with a 1:33.29. The event was won by Shorewood’s 1:28.25 finish.

Riverside finished the 4A team competition tied for 40th-place with two points, with Auburn finishing 39th with 3.5 team points. Shorewood was first in 4A with 194 team points.

Auburn Mountainview finished 33rd as a team with two points in the 3A competition, with Mercer Island coming out first with 396 points.
