Auburn girls tennis falls to Thomas Jefferson

Gabriela Rebutiaco took down her opponent from TJ for the lone Auburn victory on the court.

The Auburn Trojans girls tennis team was in action on April 1 at Auburn High School against Thomas Jefferson.

The Raiders from TJ have been cruising so far this season with just one loss to Auburn Riverside.

Thomas Jefferson defeated the Trojans by a score of 4-1, dropping the Trojan tennis side to sixth in the 3A NPSL standings.

Auburn’s number one singles player Gabriela Rebutiaco was the lone victory for the green and gold on the first day of April. Rebutiaco defeated her opponent from Thomas Jefferson in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Her 12 games won were three times as many game wins as compared to what the rest of the Trojans could manage against a tough Raider team.

The second singles match ended early with Yelitza Sorinana retiring early due to injury. She had lost the first set 6-0 and was down 3-0 at the point of retirement. Melissa Ortiz and Jackie DeRoche from Thomas Jefferson defeated Twix Nguyen and Genesis Garcia, 6-1, 6-1. Emily Belleque and Kriti Rai bagled Holland Lynn and Fatmata Daboh, 6-0, 6-0. And for third doubles, Katie Webb and Leslye Mirales fell in straight sets to Aashiyana Singh and Kimberly Lai, 6-2, 6-0.
