Senior Caitlin Carr had 20 points in Auburn Mountainview’s 50-40 win over Indio High School of California in the Nike Tournament of Champions on Wednesday at Phoenix.
The win is the first for the Lions (7-2) in the 96-team national tournament.
Senior post Hattie Kosko scored 10 points and senior Aalia Braboy added eight for the Lions.
The Lions wrap up the tournament with a noon game today for 13th place in the Mike Desper Division against St. Francis of Sacramento, Calif.
Auburn Mountainview is 1-2 in the desert, with a 53-49 loss to Tolleson Union of Arizona on Tuesday and a 52-44 loss to Narbonne High School of Harbor City, Calif., in the opening round on Monday.
Carr is leading the team in scoring in the tourney at a 23.3 points-per-game average. She is averaging 18.4 ppg on the season.
The Lions play at Auburn (3-5) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
