Auburn Mountainview cheer team continues to dominate

For the tenth straight year, team wins state title.

There aren’t many schools that have the dominance in any program like the Auburn Mountainview cheer team, who won a state title for their tenth year in a row.

The Lions took to Battle Ground High School on Jan. 25-26 to compete in the state competition.

It was actually a double dip for the Lions, who took home first place in 2A/3A/4A Tumbling small and 2A/3A Game Day Medium.

“We couldn’t be more proud of the Auburn Mountainview cheerleaders. Winning state titles in both divisions was an incredible accomplishment, especially considering the amazing talent we faced, particularly in the Small Tumbling Division,” Head Coach Shana Biggs said.

The first title came in 2015 in the 2A/3A/4A Coed Non-Tumbling, in which Kaitlyn Hanley, who is a coach now, was competing.

Hanley and Caitlin Barba, the other assistant coach, got some praise from Biggs after the two titles.

“They are the heart of this program, pouring their talent, creativity, and mentorship into every aspect of the team. Their dedication makes all the magic happen and helps shape these athletes into not just champions, but outstanding individuals,” said Biggs.

“Since then, this program has achieved something truly remarkable: winning state every year they’ve competed. It’s a testament to the culture of hard work, resilience, and positivity that these athletes continue to uphold,” Biggs said.

The Lions are an extremely close team and a team full of energy.

“They don’t just compete. They perform with heart, and their love for cheerleading shines through every routine. That energy, combined with their unwavering support for one another, is what makes them so special. They embody the essence of teamwork, dedication, and character, which is something we are incredibly proud of as coaches,” Biggs said.

As far as the scores go, Auburn Mountainview scored a 95.3 and beat second place by 7.9 points. In the 2A/3A/4A Tumbling, the Lions won by just 1.3 points with a 90.2.

Following a pair of state titles, the Lions now pack their bags and head to Orlando to compete in the National High School Cheerleading Championships at ESPN.

“They’ve earned three consecutive wins in the Small Game Day Non-Tumble Division I category, and they’re excited to return to the floor to represent our school and community with pride. Our team’s motto, ‘Do it for the person next to you,’ beautifully reflects their selflessness and commitment to each other, both as athletes and as people,” Biggs said.
