Auburn Mountainview was unable to keep pace with Enumclaw on Friday, falling 55-28 in a South Puget Sound League 3A opener at Auburn Memorial Stadium.
The Lions (0-1 league, 1-4 overall) trailed 28-21 at the half, but were unable to hold off the Hornets’ 21-point explosion in the third quarter.
Senior Joey Cassano had 14 catches for 213 yards and two touchdowns for Auburn Mountainview. Cassano also had a 16-yard run for a TD.
Sophomore quarterback Gresch Jensen was 24-of-44 passing for 292 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Jensen also led the Lions with 135 yards rushing on 22 carries.
Senior Ray Hardaway added seven catches for 54 yards and Nate Hardin had a touchdown reception.
For Enumclaw (1-0, 3-2), senior Evan McCrillis had three rushing touchdowns and senior quarterback Peter Nordby finished the game with 5-of-9 passing for 102 yards, two TDs and an interception.
Auburn Mountainview plays at Peninsula (1-0, 2-3) at 7 p.m. next Friday.
