Auburn Mountainview senior Skyler White is among 50 top high school football players in the country vying for the Rudy Award, which honors the most inspirational performer in America.

Inspireum and Parade Magazine recently announced the top 50.

White is a 5-foot-6, 165-pound wide receiver, running back and defensive back for the playoff-bound Lions.

According to Auburn Mountainview Principal Terri Herren, White carries himself with a positive attitude, and is a leader on and off the field, especially during challenging times.

“Skyler is positive, kind and considerate to anyone he comes in contact with,” Herren said. “As a leader and student athlete, Skyler continually contributes to the positive quality and culture of our community.”

White helps put a stop to bullying in the school hallways and raises awareness for the Paris White Foundation.

Last summer, White and friends established up a public life jacket station and kiosk at Isaac Evans Park in Auburn as part of his Eagle Scout project. The stand is open daily in the spring and summer for the public to borrow and return life vests of varying sizes. White’s project was created in memory of his 2-year-old sister, Paris, who died in a drowning accident six years ago.

In addition to football, White plays baseball, is a member of the Lion Crew, and is very involved in his church.

The top 12 finalists for the award will be announced Dec. 11 in Parade Magazine. The winner of the high school Rudy Award will be announced Jan. 15.
