The Auburn Riverside girls improved to 4-2-1 on the season with a 1-0 win over Kentwood Thursday at Auburn Riverside High School.

Goalkeeper Kristina Nelson was perfect between the pipes, earning the shutout, and the Ravens’ score came courtesy of a Conqueror (3-2-2) own goal.

It was Auburn Riverside’s first win against Kentwood since 2009.

The victory solidifies the Ravens’ hold on third place in the South Puget Sound League North 4A.

“We have been gutting out gritty results this season. We have one of the top defenses in the league,” coach Paul Lewis said. “I think that much of our success is due to our high-pressure defense that leads to offensive opportunities in transition and forces defensive errors.”

The Ravens will look to fend off rival Auburn (3-2-2) – which is tied with Kentwood for fourth place in the SPSL North 4A – at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Auburn Memorial Stadium.
