Auburn Riverside came up on the short end of a 10-8 slugfest against Heritage in the second round of the West Central District III/Southwest District 4 4A tournament Wednesday at Russell Road Fields in Kent.
The Ravens fell into an early 3-0 deficit after the first inning but captured the lead in the fourth at 4-3.
The Timberwolves recaptured the lead in the fifth inning.
In the seventh inning, the Ravens posted four runs to pull within two and had the bases loaded with one out before Heritage closer Tim Hergert shut the door.
The Ravens finished the season with a 14-9 overall record.
ALSO: Auburn Mountainview downed South Puget Sound League 3A rival Decatur with a 5-1 win in the first round of the West Central District III/Southwest District 4 tournament at Auburn Mountainview High School. Senior Nick Brooks turned in a two-hit, complete game with five strikeouts. Sophomore Mason Cerrillo led the team with two RBIs and two runs. Seniors Brice McCulloch and Matt Anderson had an RBI apiece.
The Lions (20-3) will face another league rival, Bonney Lake (13-9), at 1 p.m. Saturday at Auburn Mountainview. The winner moves on to the district title game at 7 p.m. at Auburn Mountainview, with the loser playing for the third or fourth seed into the state 3A tourney.
