Auburn Riverside track and field kick off season against Federal Way

Ravens J. Couch and Danielson shine in first meet.

The Auburn Riverside High School Ravens track and field team hosted Federal Way on March 22. It was the first meet for the Ravens of the season.

Riverside had a good season last year, finishing tied for 10th in the state tournament on the girls side.

The Ravens do have a returning state champion, Julia Couch. Last season, Couch won the 800 meter race and was third in the mile — essentially scoring all of Auburn Riverside’s points last season and the year end tournament.

She was just as successful against the Eagles as well. She ran in both the 800 and the 1,600 and won both of her races by more than 20 seconds.

Sophie Danielson also had a strong performance for the Riverside girls. She finished first in the 200 meter sprint and finished first in the high jump for the Ravens. Danielson made the 5 foot mark, which tied her state performance last season in just her first meet this season.

On the boys side, Riverside’s Tony Lopez (400 M), William Deiderick (3,200) and Jonathan Allan (110 M Hurdles) were the lone winners on the track.

Freshman Jonas Couch took the javelin crown with 111.00 feet as the lone field event winner on the boys side for the Ravens. But on the girls side, Morgan Holmes beat out the lone Federal Way competitor.

The Ravens’ next meet is at French Field against Kentwood and Kentlake on March 30.
