Drew Wallen, a senior at Auburn Riverside, was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the National Football Foundation’s Seattle/King County Chapter.
Also receiving the award were Cody Sheffels of Eastlake High School and Timothy Haehl of Bellevue High. Each winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship.
The other finalists were Nolan Anderson (Newport), Zachary Jacobson (King’s), Jonathan Proctor (Mount Si), Grant Doerr (Seattle Lutheran) and Jack Flor (O’Dea). Each will receive a $500 scholarship.
Other local scholar-athletes honored at the banquet were Auburn High’s Brier Atkinson and Marshall McGlory; Auburn Mountainview’s Joey Cassano and Malachi Fowler; and Auburn Riverside’s Kevin Thomson.
Auburn Riverside football coach Bryant Thomas was recognized as SPSL North 4A Coach of the Year.
The athletes were honored at Seattle NFF’s 48th Annual Scholar-Athlete Awards Ceremony at CenturyLink Field on Feb. 23. The annual awards ceremony honors outstanding local football players who excel on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.
