Auburn’s Tyler Tanner and Tanner Motorsports have hooked up with a new sponsor for the remainder of the local super late model stock car season.

Tanner’s Chevrolet crew debuts the X-Factor Hand Cleaner marketing partnership Saturday at South Sound Speedway in Rochester for the Miller 200 presented by Miller and Pepsi.

The front gate opens at 4:45 p.m., qualifying begins at 5, and racing around the 3/8th-mile oval is scheduled to begin at 6:30.

Tanner, 20, is looking for a solid finish. He has won four times at Rochester this season, including a streak of three consecutive races.

Tanner, who plans to resume classes at Arizona State University, is the son of former regional tour standout racer Kelly Tanner. The younger Tanner, an Auburn High School graduate, is studying mechanical engineering at Tempe, Ariz.

The Miller 200 field includes defending race champion Kelly Mann and Bob Pressley, the points leader in the Olympic Trailer and Truck super late model division at South Sound Speedway. The field also includes Dirk Stephens, defending late model champion at the track, venerable touring champion Ron Eaton, Dan Rhodes, and former South Sound Speedway champions J.J. Hamilton and Billy Weber.

X-Factor Hand Cleaner is Tanner’s first corporate sponsor. He hopes that relationship will accompany the young driver to the next level of his racing career – the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Tanner earned NASCAR approval to compete in a truck series race at Indianapolis last month, but the truck he was scheduled to drive was wrecked by another driver in a Kentucky race.

There is a possibility Tanner will make his truck series debut at Bristol, Tenn., on Aug. 24.
