Back on the ice: Thunderbirds open training camp Aug. 20

Preseason run includes scrimmages, full-length games

The Seattle Thunderbirds open training camp Aug. 20 at the at accesso ShoWare Center

Camp will include new features this preseason, including two full-length, 60-minute games that will end camp on Aug. 24. The double-header begins at 1 p.m. with a Future Showcase game between mainly 2003 and 2004 birth year T-Birds prospects. The second game, which faces off at 6 p.m., is the Blue White Game consisting of T-Birds prospects and returning veterans.

Camp opens Aug. 20 with scrimmages among four teams made up of returning players, prospects and free agents. There will be no rookie- or prospects-only scrimmages.

All training camp scrimmages, including the Future Showcase and the Blue White game, are open to the public free of charge. Fans attending should enter the ShoWare Center from the east side of the building.

The Thunderbirds will play six exhibition games, beginning with the Delta Hotels Preseason Classic in Everett. The T-Birds open against the Vancouver Giants at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, followed by games against the Tri-City Americans at 3 p.m. Aug. 31, and against the host Silvertips at 7 p.m. Sept. 1.

Seattle’s lone exhibition game in Kent is against Everett at 7:05 p.m. Sept. 10.

The T-Birds open the regular season at home against the Kamloops Blazers at 6:05 p.m. Sept. 21.

Single-game tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Aug. 21 on the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare box office, 625 W. James St. Season tickets may be purchased by calling the T-Birds office at 253-239-7825.

Scrimmage 11: Team Green vs. Team Grey, 3:30 p.m.

Scrimmage 13: Bronze Medal Game, 11 a.m.

Scrimmage 14: Gold Medal Game, 1:30 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 24

Future Showcase: 1 p.m.
