Blazers thump Thunderbirds 8-1 | WHL

The Kamloops Blazers defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 8-1 Wednesday night at the Sandman Centre in British Columbia.

Kamloops took a 1-0 lead on Kyrell Sopotyk’s goal at 4:38 of the first period.

Seattle tied the game 1-1 at 9:43 of the first. The puck bounced off Henrik Rybinski to Simon Kubicek at the mid-point. Kubicek took a slap shot with Conner Roulette stationed in front of Kamloops goalie Dylan Garand. Roulette tipped the shot from Kubicek over Garand and just under the cross bar. The goal was Roulette’s first as a T-Bird.

In the second period, the Blazers got goals from Brodi Stuart on the power play, Sopotyk, Connor Zary on the power play, Sean Strange and Martin Lang to take a 6-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Orrin Centazzo scored Kamloops’ seventh goal 11 seconds into the third period and eighth goal at 15:18 of the third.

The T-Birds travel to Spokane to play the Chiefs at 7 p.m. Friday. They return to the accesso ShoWare Center on Saturday for a 6:05 p.m. face-off against the Victoria Royals.
