Clair Annette — the quickest female on the grounds — tops a list of eight older fillies and mares nominated to the $50,000 Washington State Legislators Stakes, to be run at 6 ½ furlongs on Sunday, June 7.
First-place finisher in her last six starts (including one DQ), Clair Annette earned her first stakes victory in the May 17 Hastings Park Handicap. The 6-year-old Washington-bred by Beau Genius ran six furlongs in 1:08 3/5 while defeating Elusive Horizon by 4 ¾ lengths. The 2008 Claimer of the Meet has now led gate-to-wire in her last six starts, although she must extend her speed an additional sixteenth of a mile in the Washington State Legislators Stakes.
Multiple stakes winner High Resolve (11-7-2-2-$438,270) would be a tough newcomer to the scene. The 4-year-old Florida-bred is based in Northern California with trainer Greg Gilchrist, who shipped up Victorina to win last year’s running of the Washington State Legislators Stakes.
Gadget Queen, winner of the 2008 Belle Roberts, and Blue Sky Holiday, a stakes winner at Portland Meadows and Hastings Racecourse, also are nominated to the 14th running of the Washington State Legislators Stakes.
