District softball playoffs open this weekend

Auburn takes on Auburn Riverside and Auburn Mountainview opens against Bellarmine Prep in the district softball playoffs Friday at the Kent Service Club Ballfields.

First pitch for both games is 11 a.m. at the complex, 14608 SE 288th St.

The 16-team field, which encompasses teams from West Central District 3 and Southwest District 4, will compete for seven state berths.

Games are scheduled throughout Friday with the finals Saturday.

Auburn Mountainview split a pair of games in the North Puget Sound League tournment last week.

Lily Hopes’ walkoff single in the ninth inning lifted the Lions past Kentwood 4-3 last Friday. Emma Podliska homered for the Lions. Caitlyn Rhoades went the distance, scattering eight hits and striking out 10.

In the second game, Auburn Mountainview lost to Tahoma 8-1.

Hope had a double — the Lions’ lone hit — and drove in a run.
