Enumerator captures Strong Ruler Stakes at Emerald Downs

Enumerator fended off all challengers down the stretch and posted a 2 ¼-length victory Sunday in the $50,000 Strong Ruler Stakes for 2-year-old colts and geldings.

With Juan Gutierrez riding at 120 pounds, Enumerator covered 6½ furlongs in 1:18 1/5 on a fast track and paid $5, $2.80 and $2.80. Doris Harwood is the trainer for owner/breeder Herman Sarkowsky of Seattle.

Toss’m Again, ridden by Seth Martinez at 120 pounds, made a bid for the lead in midstretch but was outfinished and settled for second place. The runner-up returned $4.60 and $3.20.

Fast Tactics, ridden be Jennifer Whitaker at 118 pounds, ran on late to finish third and paid $3.80.

Burgundy Road, the even-money favorite, dueled with Enumerator into the stretch, but faded in the final furlong to finish fourth.

Hustled into contention early from the inside post position, Enumerator battled with Burgundy Road through a half-mile in 46 and 2/5 seconds, finally shook off that one at the eighth pole, and then turned back Toss’m Again past midstretch.

“At the top of the stretch, when I asked him for some run, he gave me everything he had,” Gutierrez said. “I then felt confident we would get home in front.”

A Washington-bred by He’s Tops-Really Tops, Enumerator earned $24,750 for the victory. In three starts, he has two wins and a sixth in last month’s Premio Esmeralda Stakes.

Gutierrez, Harwood and Sarkowsky also teamed up to win the Angie C Stakes for 2-year-old fillies on July 13. Harwood leads all trainers with 10 victories by 2-year-olds at the meet.

Harwood also leads in stakes wins with five, and is tied with Tim McCanna for third place all-time with 26 stakes victories at Emerald Downs, including 17 the last two seasons.

Gutierrez, meanwhile is tied with Leslie Mawing for most stakes wins by a jockey this season with four, and is now tied with Frank Gonsalves for fifth place all-time with 21.

Ladyledue romps in Knights Choice Stakes

Ladyledue began her career in style Saturday, overpowering the field for an eight-length victory in the $50,000 Knights Choice Stakes for 2-year-old fillies.

Carrying Ricky Frazier at 118 pounds, Ladyledue covered 6½ furlongs in a stakes record 1:16 4/5 and paid $14, $7.40 and $5. Bonnie Jenne trains the debutante for owner Jon Sather of Mansion, Wash.

Bella Campana, ridden by Kevin Radke at 117 pounds, edged Mimis Road Warrior by a neck for second place and returned $5 and $4. Mimis Road Warrior, with Travis Cunningham aboard at 119 pounds, paid $3.80.

NOTES: Victory Script had her Emerald Downs win streak stopped at nine straight when she finished fourth in Sunday’s fifth race, which was won gate-to-wire by Clair Annette ($6.20). Gutierrez, Mawing and apprentice Matt Hagerty rode two winners each on the 10-race card. Gutierrez has 995 wins for his career. … Entries for the 73rd running of the Grade III, $300,000 Longacres Mile will be drawn Wednesday morning at Emerald Downs.
