Kukors finishes 6th in 200-meter breaststroke

University of Washington sophomore Ariana Kukors finished sixth in the 200-meter breaststroke finals Friday evening in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Swim Trials at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb., her third top-eight finish of the trials.

While only the top two advanced to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the Auburn Mountainview graduate continued a solid week in the pool, posting the second-best time of her career in the event, completing the race in 2 minutes, 28.55 seconds. Rebecca Soni won the race in 2:22.60 while Amanda Beard finished second in 2:25.13.

Kukors, who trains locally with King Aquatic Club, finished sixth on the first day of competition in the 400-meter individual medley and placed third in the 200-meter IM. She qualified for the 200-meter breaststroke semifinals Thursday with a time of 2:29.47 then advanced to the finals in a career-best time of 2:27.26.

Kukors did not compete in the first event she was scheduled for Friday – the 200-meter backstroke – but Husky teammate Erin Campbell (Chandler, Ariz.) did, finishing 62nd in 2:17.27.
