Lions’ Gonzales takes javelin title with school-record toss

Auburn Mountainview’s Anthony Gonzales captured the javelin event with a record-breaking toss at the North Puget Sound League track and field meet at Auburn Memorial Stadium on Wednesday.

Gonzales, bound for Boise State University in the fall, unleashed a throw of 185 feet to set the school record. The mark is the sixth farthest this year for all schools in the state, second best in Class 4A and No. 1 in the West Central District

The top 10 finishers in each event advance to next week’s district championships at Sumner’s Sunset Stadium.

The NPSL meet concludes Thursday.

Other highlights Wednesday:

Auburn Mountainview’s 400-meter relay team of Landen Bowser, Bill Benjamin, Dhevin Pearson and Chris Penn claimed the win in 42.72 seconds, the state’s third-fastest performance this year and the second best among 4A schools.

Auburn’s D’Angelo Washington won the high jump with a leap of 6-2. He finished third in the long jump at 21-8.
