Lions gymnastics capture 3A sub-regional team title, Auburn Riverside’s Turnbow first in 4A all-around

The Auburn Mountainview gymnastics squad captured first-place as a team at the West Central Distict III 3A sub-district meet at Kentwood High School this past Saturday with a 162.275 team score.

The team was paced by senior Lexi Morton and junior Natalie Hostetter who finagled a one-two finish in the all-around competition.

Morton scored 35.250 all-around points, powered by a first place in the beam with a 8.050 and a first in the bars with a 9.450. She added a second place finish on the vault with 8.600 points and was third in the floor exercise with 9.150 points.

Hostetter scored 33.225 all-around points and was first in the vault with 8.750, third on the bars with 8.500, fourth on the beam with 7.050 and fifth in the floor with 8.925.

Sarah Fiksdahl was 10th all-around with a 30.525 score and Cassie Hunt was 13th with a 30.075.

Also competing for the Lions were Michelle Tanco, Jecinda Goodman, Katie Heyward, Kenzie Treece and Kristina Garasimchuck.

ELSEWHERE: In the 4A sub-district meet senior Rebecca Turnbow was golden in her final prep gymnastics meet of the season, reeling off a 37.025 all-around score to win the title.

Turnbow, who will miss the district and state meets to participate in cheerleading competitions, was third in the vault with a 9.325, second in the beam with a 8.850, third on the bars with a 9.450 and second in the floor exercise with a 9.400.

As a team, the Ravens qualified for the district meet with a 167.250 fourth-place team finish. Auburn Riverside’s Danielle Paris was 16th in the all-around with Kylee Smith, who will also miss districts and state for cheerleading, finishing 20th. The Ravens will look to the rest of their team – Danielle Robinson, Kylie Urban, Anna Marshall, Lena Tu, Monica Hernandez, Mikaili Petrina, Shelby Gray and Brittany Abellera – to make up the loss of Turnbow and Smith at the district meet this Saturday.

Puyallup was first in the team competition with a 170.250.

Also moving on, from Auburn High School is Alexis Moore who will compete in the vault, beam and floor at districts, and Tyler Garner who will compete on the beam.

The 2A/3A/4A West Central District III, Southwest District IV State Qualifying Gymanstics Meet gets underway at 10:15 a.m. this Saturday at Auburn Mountainview High School.

The state meet will begin Feb. 19 and continue Feb. 20 at the Tacoma Dome.
