The Auburn Mountainview boys and girls golf programs found themselves on the winning track at the South Puget Sound League 3A and Western Cascade Conference league golf tourney, conducted this past week at Eagle’s Pride Golf Course at Fort Lewis.

Lion senior Julie Heffernan led the charge for the Lions, posting a 36-hole total of 181 and taking home a tie for third place with Enumclaw’s Torey Schreiner in the girls competition. Heffernan’s performance automatically qualifies her for a spot at the Washington State 3A golf tourney, which will be conducted in the spring.

Also competing for the Auburn Mountainview girls was junior Amanda Stickle, who finished 12th with a 201-stroke performance over 36 holes. Stickle qualifies for the district golf tourney, which will be conducted in May.

For the girls, nine golfers move directly to the state tourney, with 14 qualifying for chance to move on at the district tourney.

The girls tourney was won by sophomore Rachel Lewis from Peninsula who shot a 167.

In the boys competition, sophomore Kelly Campbell qualified for his second state appearance with a 152-stroke performance, good for seventh place.

Sophomore Austin Gieger finished 14th at the tourney with a 160. Griffin Lamb rounded out the Auburn Mountainview golfers moving on with his 16th place finish. Lamb finished with 161, tied with TJ Griggs from Capital.

Timberline’s John Jordan finished first with a 143-stroke performance.
