Lions tumble at 3A state tournament

Auburn Mountainview’s dream season came to an abrupt end Thursday.

The Lions were bounced in two matches at the state Class 3A volleyball tournament at the Toyota Center.

The Lions, West Central/Southwest bi-district tournament champions, fell to Shorecrest in their state opener in four games. Shorecrest prevailed, 25-19, 25-11, 21-25, 25-23.

Auburn Mountainview also lost its star setter/hitter, Oregon State-bound Megan McBride, to an injury. McBride was hit by a hard-hit ball to her clavicle area during the opening-round match. She was able to continue, but was physically unable to play in the second match.

In consolation play, Mount Si ousted the Lions in four games, 28-26, 25-11, 20-25, 25-21.
