Ravens down Lions in early season showdown

Gutierrez, Lake power goals for unbeaten Auburn Riverside

Kiana Gutierrez and Natalie Lake scored goals as Auburn Riverside defeated Auburn Mountainview 2-o in a North Puget Sound Olympic Division girls soccer showdown Wednesday night.

The Ravens improved to 4-0 in the division, 5-0-1 overall. The Lions dropped to 3-1 and 4-1.

Gutierrez’s first-half goal came on a corner kick from Grace Anderson that snuck inside the back post.

Anderson had an opportunity in the first half, but her shot hit the crossbar, which Ella Miller followed and was saved by Lions keeper Jealynn Ramsey.

In the second half, the Ravens had a few more chances but some shots were saved, some went wide and one managed to roll over the crossbar.

Finally, in the last 10 minutes, Sydney Wate took a throw-in from deep in Lions territory that Kayla Rydberg headed onward, and Lake was able to half-bicycle kick it over the keeper’s head.

Bella Reckling posted the shutout.

The Ravens visit Todd Beamer for a 3:30 p.m. match Friday. The Lions travel to Thomas Jefferson on Friday, with kickoff also at 3:30.
