Ravens survive tough district, earn ticket to state

The Ravens opened state 4A tournament play against No. 7 Richland on Thursday at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. The tournament continues today and ends Saturday.

The Ravens (14-4), the No. 2 seed out of the South Puget Sound League subdistrict tournament, swept past Wilson, 3-0, in the district opener. Game scores were 25-23, 25-23 and 25-16.

In the second round, the Ravens beat Puyallup in three games, 25-22, 26-24 and 25-20.

Auburn Riverside suffered its only loss in the next round to No. 3 Curtis (16-2), 3-0. Game scores were 25-19, 25-21 and 25-19.

The Ravens responded with a 3-0 sweep of Tahoma (7-11) for third place.

For the tournament, senior Brooke Bray led the way with 31 kills, four blocks and 16 digs, with Jane Han adding 17 digs. Brooklynn Bradbury had 13 digs.

Elsewhere

Auburn Mountainview punched its ticket to state with a sixth-place finish at the WCD III 3A tournament last weekend. The Lions went 3-2 in the tournament, defeating North Thurston, 3-1, No. 7 North Kitsap, 3-1, and Columbia River, 3-0. The Lions fell to No. 4 Prairie, 3-1, and Lakes, 0-3. The Lions will open play at the state tournament at 2 p.m. today against No. 3 Bishop Blanchet in Kennewick. … The Auburn Trojans (8-7) bowed out of district play after two matches, losing to Stadium (25-18, 18-25, 25-14 and 25-19) and No. 2 Graham-Kapowsin (25-17, 25-23 and 25-19).
