Auburn Riverside senior Kenny Krotzer posted the second best 1,600-meter time in the nation on Saturday, turning in a blistering 4-minute, 7.24-second finish at the Shoreline Invitational.

Despite Krotzer’s showing, however, the time was only the second best at the meet, with North Central High School of Spokane’s Ben Johnston posting the nation’s fastest 1,600 time this year with a 4:06.54.

Krotzer’s time shatters his previous best time this season, a 4:14.04 set at the Curtis dual on April 1.

Krotzer also was stellar in the 3,200, finishing first with a 9:13.51, breaking his previous best this season – 9:17.18 at the Arnie Young Invitational on April 3 – by more than three-seconds.

Fellow distance runner, senior Nate Gesell finished eighth in the 3,200 with a 9:28.49.

In the field events, senior Wilfred DeLaRosa finished fifth in the triple jump with a 43-8.50 jump and sixteenth in the long jump with a 19-7.00 distance.

The Ravens finished the meet in fifth place with 33 team points. North Central and Skyline tied for first with 51 points each, with Federal Way snagging the third spot with 46 points.

While the boys were competing at Shoreline, the Raven girls were busy taking home eighth place in the team competition at the 50th annual Shelton Invite.

Senior Rebecca Turnbow turned in a school-record shattering 11-06 pole vault to take home first-place. The vault is also a personal record for Turnbow, who turned in a 11-00 vault at the state meet last year.

In the long jump, freshman Brandi Williams finished third with a 16-07.50 jump.

Freshman Cassidy Brown was fourth in the 800 with a 2:20.68 and sophomore Rachel Atwood was fourth in the 3,200 with a 11:18.36.

The Ravens posted 25 team points. The meet was won by Sehome with 71 points.
