Northwest Farms’ Stopshoppingdebbie had her undefeated bubble burst Saturday at sweltering Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif., beating only one horse while finishing a well-beaten fifth in the $100,000 L.A. Woman Stakes.

Top Kisser and jockey Elvis Trujillo prevailed by 3 3/4 lengths in the Grade 3 stakes for older fillies and mares. Jerry Hollendorfer is the trainer for owner Tommy Town Thoroughbreds.

Top Kisser ran 6½ furlongs in 1:14.84 and paid $6.20 as the second choice in the wagering.

Stopshoppingdebbie, the 2.00-to-1 betting favorite, appeared to labor in the 100-degree weather and was beaten for the first time in 10 career starts. The 4-year-old Curlin filly never reached contention, lagging in fifth place while Tribal Gal and Uzziel dueled through a fast half-mile of :44.22, and had little response in the lane.

“It felt like I had horse around the turn, but she didn’t go on with it,” jockey Rocco Bowen said of Stopshoppingdebbie. “I don’t want to use it as an excuse, but if felt like she was getting a hold of the track like 50-50.

“I’m thankful to be on her; she’s better than this.”

A Kentucky-bred by Curlin-Taste the Passion, Stopshoppingdebbie entered the race 9-for-9 with earnings of $247,728. For the second straight year, she swept a four-race series at Emerald Downs and was unanimously voted Top Older Filly or Mare.
