Sumner stops streaking Auburn in district playoffs

Loss sends Trojans into winner-to-state, loser-out game against South Kitsap in WCD play

Amar Rivers scored 24 points and Maleek Arington had 13 points in Auburn’s 61-57 West Central District quarterfinal playoff loss to Sumner on Friday night at Tacoma’s Wilson High School.

The loss snapped a 13-game winning streak for the sixth-ranked Trojans (21-4), who face South Kitsap (11-12) in a winner-to-state, loser-out game at 5 p.m. Monday at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.

The Trojans trimmed the Spartans’ 15-point lead to four in the closing minutes of the game but came up short.

Kaden Hansen finished with 10 points and Trevon Blassingame had six points for Auburn.
