Freshman Brahm Trujillo led the way, capturing third at 120 pounds.

After winning his first two matches by pin, Trujillo dropped a 6-5 decision in the semifinals to Sunnyside’s Jesse Barrajas, a four-time state placer and the eventual 3A champion.

Forced into the consolation bracket, Trujillo responded with a 3-2 decision over Mount Spokane sophomore Alec Hoover and a 4-1 decision over Mount Si sophomore Eli Clure for third place.

Sophomore Dylan Foley also made his mark in his first Mat Classic appearance, finishing fifth at 126 pounds.

After a loss by pin to Shorewood senior – and eventual 126-pound champion – Matthew Floresca in the semifinals, Foley went into the consolation bracket, where he dropped an action-packed 19-13 decision to Decatur sophomore Leviticus Arizpe for fifth place.

Auburn Mountainview senior Dakota Weir, a returning state competitor at 285 pounds, capped his prep career with a sixth-place finish in his weight class.

After winning his first-round match by pin, Weir lost to Hanford senior Jeff Weyand by pin in the quarterfinals.

In the consolation bracket, Weir defeated Lincoln’s J.J. Saili by pin to secure his spot on the podium.

“My goal my senior year was to place as high as I could place,” Weir said after his match with Saili.

Also competing but not placing for the Lions were 138-pound sophomore Joey Santos, 152-pound junior David Boone and 220-pound sophomore Antonio Corea.

Auburn Mountainview finished 16th in the team competition with 40 points.
