It didn’t take long for the 2-0 Auburn Trojan football team to set the tone in it’s 66-0 home opener win against Mount Rainier (0-2), Friday night at Auburn Memorial Stadium.
In fact, it took all of 18 seconds.
On the Trojans first play from scrimmage, senior Alphonse Wade romped into the end zone from 62-yards out.
After Aaron McMahon converted on the point after kick, the Trojans found themselves up 7-0 with 11:42 left on the first quarter clock.
A Mount Rainier fumble, recovered by Trojan Andrew Sansom, on the Rams first possession of the game found Auburn again in the driver‘s seat, resulting in senior quarterback Max Pratt finding Tarin McDonald in the end zone for a 17-yard touchdown pass.
The remaining 11-minutes of the first quarter was all Auburn, with the Trojans scoring on a 14-yard Dylan Rutledge run, a 25-yard run by McDonald and a 23-yard field goal, putting the score at 31-0 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter the team added an 8-yard touchdown run by EJ Strickland and a 2-yard touchdown by Devonte Woods.
Wade provided the Trojans lone score in the third quarter, scampering in from 15 yards out.
In the fourth senior Raheem Latham added a 13-yard run and sophomore Brendan Greer added a 46-yard run, to bring the score to 66-0.
The Trojans will travel to Jefferson for a 7 p.m. contest against the Raiders next Friday at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.
