Watson scores 18 points; Blassingame returns to lineup

Sophomore Dae’Kwon Watson scored 18 points and Trevon Blassingame had 16 as Auburn pulled away from Kennedy Catholic 63-48 in a first-round West Central District playoff at Bob Jones Gymnasium on Wednesday.

The Trojans (21-3) – ranked sixth in MaxPrep’s Class 4A state rankings – extending their winning streak to 13 games. Auburn advances to play Sumner (16-5) in the quarterfinals at 7:45 p.m. Friday at Tacoma’s Wilson High School. Sumner defeated Auburn Riverside 55-47 Wednesday.

Watson drilled four 3-pointers in the first half as Auburn led at the break 32-25.

Blassingame, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, returned to the lineup after recovering from a knee injury.

Maleek Arington finished with 10 points for Auburn.
