Boy Scout Troop 474’s Kwartin to receive his Eagle Scout

Boy Scout Troop 474’s Hunter Kwartin receives his Eagle Scout award, Scouting’s highest rank, at an Eagle Court of Honor on Tuesday, June 20, at St. James Episcopal Church in Kent.

Kwartin, a senior at Auburn Mountainview High School, completed his Eagle board of review on June 6.

The ceremony also will recognize Kwartin’s successful Eagle project in Auburn.

Kwartin built and donated cat trees for the Auburn Valley Humane Society Thrift Store, supporting the shelter’s mission to save and adopt animals.

Kwartin and his support crew pre-cut the pieces before the main assembly event, solidifying the final product. Fellow Scouts, friends and cohorts from the Auburn Mountainview band program and water polo team, members from his church, family and and friends attended the assembly event.

Kwartin was drum major at Auburn Mountainview. He is bound for Kansas State University to study either architectural or mechanical engineering.

The project completed 15 cat trees, which were delivered to the thrift store. Money raised from the trees went into a program, specifically funding the import of 30-plus animals from other shelters to the AVHS. Money also benefited spay/neutering and medical and food support, so that cats and dogs have a real chance at adoption.

Kwartin is the son of Lara and Mat Kwartin.
