Long-term overnight lane closures on SR 167 in Renton and Kent start next week

Late-night drivers who use State Route 167 in Renton and Kent should prepare for overnight lane closures starting the week of Aug. 21 and lasting about six weeks through September.

Starting Monday evening, Aug. 21, construction crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin grinding and repaving all lanes of roughly five miles of southbound SR 167 between Interstate 405 and 84th Avenue South/Central Avenue North.

These closures are necessary to continue construction activities for the I-405/SR 167 Interchange Direct Connector Project. This work will benefit drivers by rehabilitating the roadway in this area and making room for the future Direct Connector flyover ramp connecting the I-405 carpool lane to the SR 167 high occupancy toll lane.

To complete this work, crews plan to close two lanes on both directions of SR 167. These overnight closures are expected to occur only on weeknights.

Next upcoming lane closures:

• Monday, Aug. 21 to the morning of Friday, Aug. 25 – Up to two lanes of southbound SR 167 between I-405 and 84th Avenue South/Central Avenue North will be closed nightly from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

• Monday, Aug. 21, to the morning of Friday, Aug. 25 – Up to two lanes of northbound SR 167 between 84th Avenue South/Central Avenue North and I-405 will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
