The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 254 calls for service between Sept. 23 and 29, among them the following:

Sept. 23

Aid call: 10:51 a.m., (Pacific). Firefighters evaluated a diabetic teenager who was complaining of a decreased level of consciousness, and King County Medics hustled the girl to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).

Sept. 24

Automatic fire alarm: 1:40 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a smoke detector wailing away in a single-family home determined the culprit was not fire but a bad battery, so they installed a new detector.

Sept. 25

Vehicle fire: 11:35 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters responding to a vehicle fire found one blazing away on the side of a road alongside burning grasses and trees, all of which they extinguished. The driver told firefighters that she noticed smoke rising from her engine just after she’d left Highway 18. and that when she was pulling over, she saw flames shooting out of the engine compartment.

Sept. 26

Accident: 5:36 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters responding to a vehicle into a tree treated one young woman for minor injuries at the scene.

Sept. 27

Dumpster fire: 2:40 a.m., (North Auburn). Firefighters dispatched to a dumpster fire extinguished it, limiting damage to the aforesaid dumpster.

Sept. 28

Smoke investigation: 2:05 p.m., (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters investigating reports of gray smoke behind a church discovered parishioners cleaning and maintaining the property and burning cardboard in a fire pit. After firefighters had snuffed out the fire, they schooled those parishioners on burning regulations and how to obtain proper permits.

Sept. 29

Aid call: 10:35 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medics helped a senior citizen who was complaining of shortness of breath, and the fire folks transported her to MAMC for further treatment.
