Auburn Riverside fends off North Thurston in district play | Boys basketball

The Auburn Riverside boys basketball team held off North Thurston 56-53 in the first round of the West Central District III/South Central District 4 3A tourney on Thursday at Rogers High School in Puyallup.
The Ravens (13-8) posted a 20-point third-quarter run to pull away from the Rams (8-3) and earn a spot in the quarterfinals.
Senior Mitch Wetmore and junior Quintin Bethea led the way for Auburn Riverside with 16 points each, with teammate Julian Gulchuk adding 12.
North Thurston was led by Zack Sibley’s 16 points.
The win earns the Ravens a 2:45 p.m. Saturday game at Rogers against Columbia River (15-3).
A win Saturday puts the Ravens in the semifinals and a 6 p.m. game next Thursday against the winner of the Peninsula (16-5) vs. Lincoln (17-4) game.
A loss puts Auburn Riverside in the consolation bracket and a loser-out game against either Sumner (13-7) or Prairie (8-13).
