A single-vehicle crash killed the driver on a slick roadway in Auburn early Sunday morning, the Valley Regional Fire Authority reported.

At approximately 7:14 a.m., VRFA firefighters responded to reports of a fatality crash on Southeast 296th Street. The vehicle was found on its rooftop entangled in chain link fence after crashing into a telephone pole.

Witnesses of the crash reported a high rate of speed prior to the vehicle losing traction on the wet, slushy roadway.

VRFA units assessed and rendered aid to two occupants of the vehicle. The driver died at the scene. King County Medic One treated the other occupant before transporting the person to Haborview Medical Center.

The incident is under investigation.
