Between Feb. 8 and Feb. 14, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 271 calls for service, among them the following.

Feb. 8

Aid call: 7:46 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters treated a man in seizure, and a private ambulance motored the guy to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).

Feb. 9

Vehicle under water: 10 a.m., (Kent). While VRFA and Renton divers were on a training dive at Lake Fenwick, they found a vehicle submerged in 20 feet of water, so they secured a tow cable to the vehicle and hauled it out of there.

Aid call: 8:45 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters and King County Medic One treated a man for gunshot wounds to his lower extremities, and King County Medic One transported him to Harborview Medical Center.

Feb. 10

Aid call: 9:45 a.m., (Auburn). Responding with police and medics to a possible shooting victim, firefighters found a man who had been stabbed during a road-rage incident, so they bandaged his wounds, and a VRFA aid unit transported him to a local hospital.

Feb. 11

Aid call: 8:56 a.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters treated a senior citizen who was complaining of confusion, and a private ambulance hurried her to MAMC.

Feb. 12

Vehicle fire: 5:33 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters extinguished a burning motor home, ensuring no damage to surrounding exposures.

Feb. 13

Small house fire: 1:10 p.m., (Auburn). Responding to a domestic-violence call, firefighters, police and King County Medic One discovered that a man had barricaded inside a house with his young son, and that the call had escalated to a hostage situation. The man surrendered two hours later and was placed in the custody of Auburn Police, whereupon firefighters discovered that the house was full of smoke. When the fire crews entered, they found materials in a bedroom smoldering away, which they quickly extinguished. They then turned over the scene to the VRFA Fire Marshal and Auburn Police for investigation.

Car fire: 7:36 p.m., (Auburn). VRFA units called to a car fire near “C” street and Highway 18 arrived to find an abandoned vehicle, fully involved in fire, so they extinguished the fire and turned the scene over to Auburn Police for investigation.

Feb. 14

Tree in the road: 10:10 a.m., (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters investigating a report of a tree blocking one lane of Lakeland Hills Way blocked traffic and removed the tree.
