Auburn Mountainview students Nicole Gaarder and Erika Son won gold at the state Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) regional competition in Wenatchee last month.

Their service project raised funds to support a local family in need.

The next phase of their project includes sponsoring a walkathon and a balloon event from 6-9 p.m. April 25 on the school’s track. The balloon event, Helping Other People’s Everyday Struggle (HOPES), will raise funds to help students buy sports equipment, musical instruments and other supplies.

FCCLA is a nationwide nonprofit career and technical education student organization that provides personal growth, leadership development and career preparation opportunities for students in family and consumer sciences.
